Security Risk Management 101 - New Orleans
Course Overview:
The Security Risk Management 101 Workshop is an introductory/mid-level course of instruction designed to prepare the new or journeyman security professional or supervisor to manage security risk in an industrial environment. Students will start by learning the fundamentals of risk management and then go on to learn the importance of understanding the Threat by learning how to conduct the required analysis and develop an "All Perils Profile" (Hazards and Threats). Once the threat has been defined, students will learn how to fully analyze the target system they are tasked with analyzing by breaking down the system into a four major types of components.
Once students learn to determine what they must protect and what they must protect it from, they will then learn how to determine the likelihood that a specific threat will conduct an attack. The next task is to learn to conduct a security assessment in order to identify how the target's current operational environment can help or hinder the security risk manager in securing their target system. This lesson requires students to consider existing security measures, the terrain, weather and any existing rules, laws or regulations that may effect the security of their target system. Once these three skills have been mastered, students will learn how to apply the industrial security model. Day three finds the students breaking out into two teams to plan an actual security assessment. The class will culminate with a practical exercise whereby students will assess the risk to and develop a security plan for facility with multiple areas of consequence.
